8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’s knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!” (Luke 5:8 CSB)

So often I feel like Peter. Just wanting the Lord to go away from me because I am a sinful man.

But that is not the God we serve. No. He is a God of compassion and love. He comes close when we expect him to be far away from us. We are like dirty rags yet He comes near to us and wants us to feel his love.

When we feel at our worst he is always at his best. Ready to come close and relieve our fears, our sins and our darkened hearts.

We cannot live at our best when God is not near.
