Well, it is. But it isn’t!
What I mean, is that the one trap I do not want to fall into in writing this blog is that this is totally about me. Yes, it may circle around my experiences, but I am such an infinitesimal part of this experience.
Yes, I said infinitesimal. Yes, that is a big word for me. But if you have not considered what a speck of sand you are in this great world, in the grand scheme of things, you should.
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:13-14)
So, since it is not about me, what is it about?
Well, you.
Well, sorta.
I want people to find something useful here and as such I want to write these entries in such a way that it does not come across as just me searching.
Which it is, sorta.
It’s confusing.
Regardless, the spirit of the thing is for us is to see our lives through the filter of what we are about not being about us. When it is, it becomes such an infinitesimal thing.
You see, when you shift your spirit to reach outward and not always inward suddenly you begin to become bigger.
Consider this; A great book on Aikido , “Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere”, the core concept is how everything expands out from us from our center (our Hara) in a dynamic circle. The idea being, from a martial sense, that we must ever maintain an awareness and control of the sphere around us and all things are manipulated around that sphere.
What I like about this, outside the martial aspect, is that if we continue to expand from that center sphere outward we begin to realize the theory of our “sphere of influence.”
Each of us has the ability to expand our sphere and touch others, to reach out and truly have a positive influence beyond ourselves.
But, it cannot be about us if we hope to have this impact upon those around us and the world.
Expand you sphere!
