True and Lasting Change

The last year has seen a lot of change in my life. Some of my doing, much not. Job challenges and health challenges, most recently. A desire to minimize but a realization that I have not done much to actually streamline my life on that front.

Fits and starts; that is probably the best way to summarize 2015.

Maybe it is bit a sign of my age, but probably more a byproduct of my personality traits, I do not make a lot of true and lasting change. I am a creature of habit. Old habits. Bad habits. Lazy habits.

It is easier to just let things be than to kick your butt into motion to change them. Especially when things are comfortable, familiar and easy to fall back on.

I saw this most in my health. Not that I am, necessarily, unhealthy. But I was told three years ago that I was pre-diabetic. I changed my eating habits and lost twenty pounds. Then went back to just doing what I always did, eating everything in sight that looked good.

So, as you would expect my last blood test confirms that I am now diabetic. You get what you get when you got what you got!

I will try diet and exercise again, first, to see if that will help so I do not immediately have to go to meds. But MAN am I finding getting back into working out hard!

Same can be said with many of my other “habits”, they are well worn and exceedingly hard to break. Thus, I continue to wallow in my old ways and “allow” life to just move forward on it’s own.

I need to take a hold and make 2016 a pivotal year for me. Really make true and lasting change for the better. Get rid of the baggage and fluff of life and take a hard line with myself on those elements of life that are better managed than left to happen of their own accord.

In effect get a strangle hold on my bad habits and forge a life moving forward of positive improvement. I mean that was the whole reason I switched from my previous blog format, The Observation Deck, to The Vitruvian Journey. I meant to forge these lasting changes and then went and just idled along.

So, I am here and now in front of God and everyone (well the few of you who actually read this) and taking a stand in 2016 for true and lasting change!

Keep me honest!
